The new hooch (the sunset hooch)
was a project I needed to do. After building several hooches for others, I wanted
to build the essential, tropical hooch that I had been planning for a very long
time- since planti
ng
all the bamboo that now proliferates the treehouse property. My dream was to
plant the bamboo, grow it, harvest it, and build with it. And, in the spring
of 2004, I did just that!
The sunset hooch is located in a grove of ancient mango trees a short walk from the main house. It is isolated, and private. Though small and simple, the hooch provides all the essential amenities. The sunset hooch has two photovoltaic solar panels that charge a 12 volt battery, which in turn powers the lights in the bedroom, kitchenette, and bathroom. We have solar hot water, a shower, flush toilet (in the hoochette), a ktchen sink, and large bathroom sink. The kitchenette is equipped with a super insulated ice cooler, propane camp stove, wrap around counters, sink, and ample shelf space. A small table and chairs under a mango tree provides for pleasant dining.
With 12 acres of surrounding forest, bamboo groves, and numerous paths, you are encouraged to explore, and discover. Our giant hammock in the "valley of the bamboos" will certainly beckon.
The hooch itself provides one of the best views you could imagine. 365 day Caribbean sunsets, a pond, and rural farm panorama- with horses, cows, ducks, geese, the best bird watching, and a perfect perch for sunset green flashes.
